Brilliant Cyprus BXL FC demolishes Estonia 6-0

Cyprus BXL FC came up with yet another stellar performance tonight, sweeping Estonia off the pitch 6-0 for their second game in the BXL Euroleague. The second half was the stuff of dreams for the Cypriots, who literally bulldozed the Estonians into submission, scoring five goals, hitting the post once, having two goals disallowed for offside and missing heaps of chances for more.

The first half was a scrappy affair, Estonia defending resolutely within its own half and Cyprus BXL FC not being able to find its way into the box. After the twenty minute mark the Cypriots were finally managed to spread play to the two wings, and create some scoring opportunities from Voudouris’ silky game on the right. Seconds before the end of the half, an incisive pass by Voudouris sent Anastasiades menacingly into the box, where he was brought down. Penalty, and 1-0 just before half time.

Coach Nikolian substituted G. Leontiou for Rossides at the break to reinforce his attacking line. The plan worked almost immediately, as minutes into the second half Fossati converted Rossides’ assist with a superb diagonal screamer which bounced several times off the post and crossbar before ending in the back of the net. Anastasiades got his second of the night after a brilliant team effort, and Rossides converted an assist from Formosa soon thereafter with a diagonal shot from inside the box. Minutes later Rossides scored another one with a well-struck shot from the edge of the box and Georgakoudis, in his first performance for Cyprus BXL FC, got the dream debut with a goal at his first touch, scoring from a rebound and making the score an emphatic 6-0. Two more goals from Anastasiou and Yiangoudakis were dubiously disallowed as offside.

While the scoreline speaks for itself, the flair and determination of the Cypriots cannot be understated. After a frustrating first half, they regrouped and came out of the break firing from all cylinders.

Fossati and Anastasiou were brilliant in midfield (the latter finishing the game with three assists), while Papoutsas and Voudouris were a constant source of menace for their opponents. Newcomers Formosa and Georgakoudis left a lot of promise after their fantastic first performance, while strikers Anastasiades and Rossides looked as lethal as ever tonight, scoring four between them and creating much more for teammates. Telemachou was talismanic in masterminding the defensive line and Dellopoulos was his perfect partner, nipping danger in the bud before it even materialised into any concrete scoring opportunities for Estonia.

All in all, a great night, full of promise for Cyprus BXL FC. If they can maintain the momentum and the thirst for achievement they seem to have at the moment, the sky appears to be the limit for this season.

The next games of Cyprus BXL FC are against Spain and France on October 13 and 20 respectively.
