Cyprus BXL FC draw 0-0 against UK

Last night’s 0-0 draw against the UK was definitely not a game that many in the Cyprus BXL FC bunch will remember for long. If at all, it will be remembered as another lost opportunity and two points lost in a game that should have, and could have, been won.

The two teams were quite evenly matched throughout the game in their solid defensive postures, and their inability to create meaningful chances in attack. During the first half the creative side of Cyprus BXL FC was completely dormant, and bar one shot from Anastasiades and a couple of set pieces that brought the ball into the UK penalty area, no scoring opportunities were created.

At the same time, the UK was also languishing in the Cypriot half, creating only three opportunities from corners, which Gogakis had the answers to with an equal number of impressive interventions to keep the clean sheet.

Cyprus BXL FC entered the second half a bit more purposefully, gaining most of possession and gradually pushing the game up the field to exert some pressure in front of the UK defense. Once again however, few clear chances and no real threat for the UK goalkeeper. Fossati had a good long range effort that went just wide, a good run for Papoutsas from the left flank that did not materialise into anything concrete, and, the only clear chance for the Cypriots in the whole game, a Georgakoudis close-range header in the dying moments of injury time, that went disappointingly wide.

All in all a frustrating result for Cyprus BXL FC, that sees its string of bad results being extended to three, and the dream of a top-4 position looking in the present circumstances and given the fixtures left more and more difficult.

MVP for last night goes to Gogakis, whose three fantastic saves in the first half kept the clean sheet for Cyprus, and maintained its unbelievable defensive record to only 10 goals against in the whole season. He was closely followed by Georgakoudis and Tsangaris who put in very solid performances.

Starting XI: Gogakis, Tsangaris, Telemachou, Dellopoulos, Ph. Orphanides, Papoutsas, Fossati, Voudouris, Rossides, Georgakoudis, Anastasiades

Next game for Cyprus BXL FC is on Thursday 22 March against Sweden at the ISB.
