Cyprus BXL FC fall bravely to superior Spain, 0-3

 It was a measure of how things have changed since last year, that Cyprus BXL FC went into this game with statistical superiority over Spain in a number of areas. At the end of the game thischange was even more obvious in the faces of the Cyprus players, who lost 0-3 to last year’s high-flying champions, but felt they should have gotten more out of this match.

Second draw of the season tonight for Cyprus BXL FC who left with a 1-1 from a cold, wet and rough game at the VUB. Two penalties in the second half decided the fate of the game, whose result can on the whole be judged as fair.

Cyprus BXL FC clinch another 3 against Lithuania

Cyprus BXL FC put in another convincing performance last night at the ISB and secured comfortably the three points against Euroleague newcomers Lithuania. The Cypriots have positioned themselves in fourth place in the Euroleague standings, with a game in hand versus the second and third teams. They have  dropped only two points in six games, and conceded only one goal. Their bone crunching defense is by a large margin the best in the League, and they average an impressive three goals per game in attack.

It was another triumphant night for Cyprus BXL FC at the ISB tonight, where they ticked off their fourth win in five games, this time over Germany.

Cyprus BXL FC was once again impenetrable in defense, where they have so far conceded one single goal in 5 games, and that from the penalty spot. This is their best defensive record in the history of the club.

3 in 3 for Cyprus BXL FC with emphatic 3-0 against France.

Cyprus BXL FC marched to their third victory in three games this season, beating France comprehensively 3-0 last night at the ISB. Nikolian's boys showed tenacity and perseverance against an opponent that started the season with high hopes and two good results against stronger teams. Anastasiades scored another two last night, bringing his tally to 6 this year, while Giorgos Leontiou scored the crucial first goal close to the end of the first half.

Cyprus BXL FC lose 2-3 to Bulgaria in tight friendly

Cyprus BXL FC lost 2-3 in its friendly game against Bulgaria at the ISB tonight, but their performance left hopes of much better days ahead. With a number of key players missing (Telemachou, Anastasiades, Karides, Dellopoulos, Voudouris), the friendly was an opportunity for the rest of the team to show what it's made of, and for new arrivals to the team to get crucial play time on the pitch.

Brilliant Cyprus BXL FC demolishes Estonia 6-0

Cyprus BXL FC came up with yet another stellar performance tonight, sweeping Estonia off the pitch 6-0 for their second game in the BXL Euroleague. The second half was the stuff of dreams for the Cypriots, who literally bulldozed the Estonians into submission, scoring five goals, hitting the post once, having two goals disallowed for offside and missing heaps of chances for more.

Pregame: Cyprus vs Estonia, Thursday 6 October

Cyprus BXL FC's second league game is scheduled for Thursday this week against Estonia.


In the leadup to this game, the Cypriots beat Denmark 4-1 for the league, and Lithuania 5-1 in a friendly that took place last week. Estonia has played two games for the league so far, suffering heavy defeats to Romania and Portugal.

Cyprus BXL FC started their season in magnificent style, comprehensively beating Denmark 4-1 at the ISB last night. Alex Anastasiades scored his first two of the season, while Papoutsas and Anastasiou scored the other two, in a game which the Cypriots made look very easy.

Cyprus BXL FC is facing off with Denmark for the launch of the 2011-12 season.


The Cyprus BXL FC boys will be in full force on the pitch, bar Rossides who is out with a knee injury and Antonakopoulos who remains doubtful because of continued ankle concerns. Keeper PaniKOS has fully recovered from the knock he received in Monday's friendly and will be at Coach Nikolian's disposal.

Early days
It’s November 2004. A bunch of freshly arrived Cypriots sit in the gloom of Brussels winter, trying to come up with a plan that would secure them their regular fix of footy. It doesn’t take too long before they connect with a team of EU officials that play on Saturdays in “Overjise”. But where the hell was Overjise?
